This is the lesson and story for Sunday school to teach about obeying god. A Bible story, along with a moral story, to understand a better way
Aiming
- Teach children the importance of obeying God and living according to His Word.
- Encourage them to obey their parents just as they practice honouring God.
- Help them understand that stopping misbehaviour, being obedient, and studying well are part of obeying God.
Teaching Method
Hello children,
Have you ever touched fire? What happens if you touch it? It burns, right?
Do your parents tell you to stay near the fire? No! They lovingly warn you to stay away. If you do not listen, you will get hurt.
That is why listening to our parents is important.
In the same way, obeying God keeps us safe and blessed. When we practice serving God, we choose protection instead of danger.
Today, we will learn why obeying God and obeying our parents brings blessings.
Now listen carefully. I am going to tell you a beautiful story.
The Little Lamb Who Didn’t Listen to Her Mom
There was a beautiful forest, and near it was a small village. Many happy families lived there. Each family had many animals.
(Ask the children: What animals do you think they had?)
Yes! Sheep, goats, cows, chickens, ducks, and many more.
In that village, there was a man named Edward. Every day, he took his animals into the forest for food. They ate happily and returned home safely in the evening.
One day, one of his sheep named Lily gave birth to a little lamb called Sisi.
Sisi was very naughty. She always wanted to do things her own way. Even though her mother warned her not to leave the herd, she refused to listen.
Instead of obeying God’s design of staying with her family, she chose her own way.
She thought freedom meant going far away. But she did not understand that real safety comes from obedience.
One day, while playing alone, a jackal attacked her. She cried loudly in fear.
Her mother ran quickly, and Edward followed. When they reached her, Sisi was badly hurt.
At that moment, Sisi understood an important lesson: safety comes from obedience. She said sorry and promised to stay with her family.
Children, what did we learn?
- Disobedience brings danger.
- Obedience brings protection.

Not obeying God Brings Loss
Do you know Adam and Eve?
God placed Adam and Eve in the beautiful Garden of Eden. They hadthe freedom to enjoy everything.
But God gave one command,
Do not eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.
The tree was called the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.
Did they practice obeying God?
No.
Satan tempted Eve. He told her that eating the fruit would make her wise. Instead of honouring God, she listened to Satan.
She ate the fruit and gave some to Adam. He also ate it.
When God came, they were afraid and hid.
Children, when we do not practice obeying God or obeying our parents, we feel afraid inside. Our heart tells us we did something wrong.
Because they did not choose to submit to God:
- They lost God’s blessings.
- They were sent out of the Garden.
- The serpent was punished.
- Even the ground was cursed.
- They lost their peace and comfort.
- Disobedience brings consequences.
- Fearing God brings blessing and joy.
Memory Verse about Obeying God
Why Obeying God Matters Children – John 14:15
Teach Them – Fearing God means listening to His Word.
Respecting our parents and elders. Not fighting or hurting others, studying sincerely, and avoiding bad behaviour.
If we choose Obeying God, we receive: Blessings, Peace, Joy, Protection,
If we choose disobedience, we may face consequences.
Let us pray and ask God to help us grow in honouring God every day.
