You are the salt, you are the light, you are a branch that bears fruit, you are the temple of God, you are the lamb that hears God’s voice, in many such ways God has shown us who we are. These scriptures help us live spiritually strong in this world, examine our lives, and walk in the right path according to God’s will in every situation.
In the Holy Bible, salt is given great importance. Salt teaches many lessons for our spiritual life. In a worldly sense, food without salt has no taste; even if you cook with great effort, it becomes useless. In the same way, if our spiritual life has no “salt,” we become tasteless and lifeless. The scripture says tasteless salt is thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. Let us look at the places in the Bible where salt is mentioned.
- You are the light of the world” – Matthew 5:14
- You are the temple of God” – 1 Corinthians 3:16
- You are the salt of the world” – Matthew 5:14
In different places, the Lord Jesus Christ spoke these words to you and me. The bride of Christ must be a light to the world, holding the word of life and shining like stars among the crooked and dark generation, Philippians 2:16.
Salt gives taste to the food
Food without salt has no taste – Job 6:6. No one likes tasteless food. In the same way, we must taste and see that the Lord is good. We also should be a delight to God. Our life must have the “salt” of grace, and we should not become tasteless people whom He might spit out. Our spiritual life must have salt. According to Mark 9:50, we must have good fellowship with our brothers and sisters, love one another, forgive our neighbours, and obey God’s commandments. Our lives must bring glory to God.
Every offering must have the salt
In the Old Testament, salt was given great importance. Leviticus 2:13 says that the salt must be added to every offering. This shows that whatever we offer must be meaningful and valuable. The covenant we make must also be strong like salt. A life filled with spiritual richness is what God expects. Only such people will be taken up with Him when He comes for His bride. To be prepared as the bride, we must pray continually, walk closely with God, and live a pleasing life that becomes a sweet aroma to Him. In Genesis 8:21, the offering Noah gave was a pleasing aroma to God.

A newborn baby is rubbed with the salt
A newborn baby was rubbed with salt – Ezekiel 16:4. Just like fish is cleaned with salt, babies were salted to purify them. In the same way, the church (the bride of Christ) must work like salt to purify and strengthen new believers.
Your conversation must be seasoned with the salt
Colossians 4:6 says our conversation must be seasoned with salt, always full of grace and meaning. We should avoid useless and empty words. Our words must carry spiritual wisdom and bring taste and blessing to others. We must speak strengthening words, gracious words, and life-giving words – Proverbs 18:21. Our conversations must help others grow spiritually.
The Salt That Stops Bad Growth
In Judges 9:45, Abimelech conquered Shechem and scattered salt over the land so that nothing would grow. In the same way, God’s word acts like salt in our hearts, preventing sinful thoughts and cleansing us from evil. God’s word keeps our hearts fertile for good spiritual fruits. Just like weeds are cut and burned, God’s word (salt) removes unfruitful things from our spiritual life.
Salt that turned deadly waters into living waters
In 2 Kings 3:19–22, the land was beautiful, but the water was bad. When the people shared this with Elisha, he took salt in a new bowl and poured it into the spring. Then the water became pure, and the land became fruitful. In the same way, when we add the salt of God’s word into the spring of our hearts, we become productive.
The Valley of The Salt
David defeated his enemies in the Valley of Salt – 2 Samuel 8:13, 2 Kings 14:7. The Valley of Salt was a place of victory. The church (bride of Christ) must be like the Valley of Salt — victorious. When we have the “salt” of God’s Word in our lives, we gain victory over sin. Jesus took our punishment, died on the cross, and rose again on the third day, conquering death. By holding on to God’s Word, we also must overcome sin.
May we accept Jesus Christ as our personal Saviour and live a life filled with the “salt” of God’s Word, having good virtues, and becoming a sweet fragrance to Him
