Then Jesus said to them, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.” John 12:23-24 The message of this passage reveals the great truth of Victory over Death.
Resurrection means rising again. After death, resurrection means rising from the dead. When a seed is buried in the soil, it disappears from sight. After some time, a small sprout emerges from the ground. That sprout is the seed’s resurrection experience. As a seed, it “died” in the soil. It seemed to perish completely. Yet it reappeared above the ground as a living plant. Though its form changed, its essence remained the same.
The wheat that was sown is the same wheat that rises. It was buried as a physical seed, but it had emerged in a new and living form. There is a difference in appearance, yet the substance is one. It was sown in weakness but raised in life. What was once hidden beneath the soil now stands alive and fruitful above it. When a grain of wheat is buried, it dies; but through that death, new life bursts forth. It grows into a plant and produces many more grains.
He is the grain of wheat and true victory over death
In the same way, Jesus Christ compared Himself to a grain of wheat. Through His death and resurrection, He demonstrated true Victory over Death for all mankind.
On the night He was betrayed, the Lord took bread, broke it, and said, “This is My body, which is broken for you.” Luke 22:19; 1 Corinthians 11:23-24
Just as a grain of wheat is crushed and exposed to fire to become bread, our Lord Jesus Christ was crushed for our sins. He bore the fire of God’s righteous judgment for our transgressions. As it is written, “He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5
The wounds that should have been ours, He bore. The punishment that belonged to us, He carried. It pleased the Lord to allow Him to be crushed for our sake. Dear friends, He experienced the death that we deserved. He was buried. Yet He conquered death and the grave and rose again, revealing His eternal Victory over Death.

As He declared, “I am the First and the Last. I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. And I hold the keys of death and Hades.” Revelation 1:18
God has made this wonderful provision so that all who place their faith in Him may share in this Victory over Death and receive eternal life. Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me, though he may die, yet shall he live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die.
If we do not believe in the resurrection of Jesus, our faith is in vain. We would still be in our sins. The preaching of the gospel would be meaningless. The death of Christ on the cross would have no purpose. The Apostle Paul clearly declared that anyone who refuses to believe and accept the resurrection of Christ cannot truly be called a Christian. Christianity is founded upon this unshakable truth. Through the resurrection, Christ was proven to be alive, and the supernatural power of God was revealed as the ultimate proof of Victory over Death.
The Word of God says, “If we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him.” Romans 6:8,9
Therefore, let us place our faith in Jesus, who died for our sins, defeated the powers of hell, and crushed the head of Satan. Let us rely upon Christ, who now sits at the right hand of God and continually intercedes for us. In Him alone we find eternal hope, resurrection power, and everlasting Victory over Death.
