Hello children! How are you all?

If your friends, brothers, sisters, or classmates who did not come today had also come, God would be even happier. Jesus also looks at those who are not coming to Sunday School. If they realise their mistake and return, God welcomes them happily.

Today, we are going to learn about someone who went away from his father. Let us understand this through the Prodigal Son Bible Story. First, show the Bible reference to the children and explain the passage. In the Bible, there is a story about a person called the lost son. Let us learn about him.

The Beginning of the Prodigal Son Bible Story

There was a family. It was a very rich family. In that family, there was a father and two sons.

The father was a loving, kind, and compassionate man. He loved his children very much. He cared for them with great affection and provided everything they needed. They had everything they wanted.

But one day something happened. Among the two sons, the younger son went to his father and said, “Father, give me the share of the property that belongs to me. I cannot wait until later.” When the son asked this, the father felt very sad and hurt in his heart. But the son insisted and strongly asked for his share of the inheritance. Because of the father’s love, he divided the property and gave the younger son his share. The Son Leaves Home, He is the lost son (Prodigal Son Bible Story )

After receiving his share, the younger son left the house. He took the money and wanted to live freely and independently. So he left his father and his brother and went to a distant land. There, he carelessly spent all his money. He lived with bad friends and did many wrong things. Slowly, he forgot the love of his father and fell into sinful habits.

Now, children, do you understand why he is called the lost son in this Prodigal Son Bible Story for Kids? The Suffering of the Lost Son. After some time, a famine came to that land. By that time, all the money he had was gone. When his money ran out, all his friends left him. No one stayed with him anymore.

He had no food to eat. His clothes became dirty and torn. He had no proper clothes to wear and no place to stay. He was suffering greatly. The Lost Son Realises His Mistake

Do you know what the lost son did next, children?

Because he had no food, no shelter, and no proper clothes, he became very weak and tired. Finally, he got a job as a pig keeper. He suffered a lot while working there. He was so hungry that he even wanted to eat the food that the pigs were eating. But even that food was not given to him.

At that time, the lost son remembered his father’s house and his father’s love. He began to think, “In my father’s house, there are many servants, and they all have enough food. But here I am dying with hunger.” Then he realised his mistake. He thought about the sin he had committed. He decided to go back to his father and say,

“Father, please forgive me. I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am not worthy to be called your son. Please allow me to live as one of your servants.” So he started his journey back home.

The Father’s Love shows in the Prodigal Son Bible Story

Meanwhile, the father was waiting for his son to return. Every day, he would look from the rooftop towards the road. Even after many days, he never lost hope. He believed that one day his son would come back.

One day, the father saw his son coming from a distance.

Immediately, he ran towards him. He hugged him and kissed him with great love.

The lost son fell at his father’s feet and said,

“Father, forgive me. I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am not worthy to be called your son.”

But the father did not treat him like a servant. Instead, he showed his great love.

He told his servants,

“Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let us eat and celebrate.”

The ring was a symbol of authority and belonging. By giving the ring, the father restored his son’s rights again.
