Does God really speak to us? How Does God Speak to Us?
In the Bible, especially in Exodus 33:11, it is written that God spoke with Moses face to face, as a man speaks with his friend. Yet today, many people say, “God revealed this to me,” or “God told me this,” and some even claim that they have seen God and heard His voice directly.
So the question arises, how does God speak to us?
The answer is found in the divine and holy Word of God, the Bible, which the Lord has graciously given us. Whatever anyone may say, it must be confirmed by Scripture. If something is not found in the Bible, it stands contrary to the Word of God. This is a humble and loving reminder.
How Does God Speak to Us Through Dreams?
God speaks through dreams.
In Genesis 28, God spoke to Jacob, and in Genesis 37, He spoke to Joseph through dreams. God revealed future events, such as the coming famine to Pharaoh, and the future of kingdoms to King Nebuchadnezzar in the book of Daniel.
Even in the New Testament, God spoke through dreams. In the Gospel of Matthew 1:20; 2:12, 19), God spoke to Joseph.
However, not every dream is from God. When we understand how does God speak to us, we must remember that God speaks through dreams only to convey specific and meaningful messages. God does not speak in vain or without purpose.
How Does God Speak to Us Through Visions?
Another way God speaks is through visions.
Sometimes, while we are praying, our prayer suddenly pauses, and God reveals a vision. Many people do not understand the difference between dreams and visions. A dream occurs when we are asleep, but a vision happens when we are awake, especially during prayer or deep meditation.
When we seek to understand how does God speak to us, we must recognize these moments when God chooses to reveal something beyond our natural understanding.

God Speak to Us Through His Word?
God speaks to us through His Word.
When we read the Bible, certain verses suddenly stand out. The surrounding verses may seem hidden, but one particular verse shines brightly and speaks directly to our heart. Sometimes, even after we stop reading, that verse continues to echo in our minds.
Also, when someone is preaching the Word of God, a specific message may deeply touch us. Our hearts open, and we become attentive. As written in Acts 16:14, God opens our hearts to receive His Word.
This is a powerful way to understand how does God speak to us, as His Word transforms and guides us.
How Does God Speak to Us Through Circumstances?
God also speaks through our life circumstances.
If we feel that everything is going smoothly without any challenges, it may indicate that we are not closely aligned with God. Life does not remain the same every day because God has a purpose in every situation.
When God called Abraham, he did not immediately obey. There was a delay. So God allowed changes in circumstances that eventually led Abraham to leave his home (Genesis 20:13).
In the same way, we may think we are obedient, but often we are distant from God. To draw us closer, God allows changes in our situations. Sometimes, He permits difficulties to teach us valuable lessons.
When we reflect on how does God speak to us, we begin to understand that even hardships are part of His divine communication, guiding us toward obedience and faith.
How Does God Speak to Us Through Inner Prompting?
God speaks through inner prompting.
This may raise doubts, but it is true. When God wanted the temple to be rebuilt, He stirred the heart of King Cyrus (Ezra 1:1-2). In the same way, God moves our hearts and minds.
However, we must remember that such prompting leads only to good actions. Anything that goes against God’s Word is not from Him, it is from the enemy.
The Apostle Paul warned in Galatians 5:8 that such misleading influence does not come from God. The Galatians were turning back to practices that were contrary to the grace of Christ (Galatians 5:4).
So, when we think about how does God speak to us, we must test every prompt through the Word of God. If something leads us away from Scripture, we must return to the truth and examine ourselves in His light.
Listening to God’s Voice
Finally, let us ask ourselves,do we have the habit of listening to God’s voice? Is God speaking to us?
Surely, He is speaking. But are we listening?
When we hear and obey God’s voice, we experience a victorious life in this world. His Word protects us from the traps of Satan and leads us toward eternal life.
As we understand how does God speak to us, let us develop a listening heart. May the Holy Spirit grant each one of us the grace to hear God’s voice clearly. Amen.
