Waiting On God, A Powerful Lesson From Isaiah 40:31.

They That Wait Upon the Lord Shall Renew Their Strength. Isaiah 40:31

“But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31

Waiting Upon the Lord

Waiting upon the Lord is something deeply essential in our spiritual lives. To wait means to remain expectant after we have prayed, patiently looking for the answer and the fulfillment of God’s promise. Silent waiting before God is equal to offering praise.

As it is written in Psalm 65:1, “Praise awaits You, O God, in Zion.”

Zephaniah 1:7 says, “Be silent in the presence of the Lord God.”

In Zechariah 2:13 we read, “Be silent, all flesh, before the Lord, for He is aroused from His holy habitation.”

Waiting quietly in God’s presence is not easy for everyone, but it carries great power. We must not rise immediately after prayer; instead, we should wait in His presence. In Luke 11:5-9, persistence in prayer is taught.

Hudson Taylor once said that we must give time to God every day in order to experience His presence. When we remain silent before Him, we are filled with the Spirit of God.

Beloved, those who experience the Spirit of God receive renewed strength. They accomplish great things. The early believers who listened to Christ were stirred with revival fire (Acts 1:4).

Looking Expectantly (Spiritual Waiting)

In the first coming of Christ, believers waited expectantly.

Simeon, a devout man, waited for the consolation of Israel (Luke 2:25-38).

In Genesis 49:18, it is written, “I wait for Your salvation, O Lord.

Isaiah 25:9 declares, “This is our God; we have waited for Him, and He will save us.”

Joseph of Arimathea also waited for the Kingdom of God (Mark 15:43).

We, as believers of the Second Coming, must also live in expectation.

Jesus Himself said, “Be like those who wait for their master” (Luke 12:35-36).

In the Old Testament, faithful people waited patiently for what they had not yet seen. Likewise, we must wait with patience for what we do not yet see (Romans 8:25). Then we will receive renewed strength as promised in Isaiah 40:31.

Three Experiences of Renewed Strength

To receive this new strength, we must experience three things:

  • 1. Walking Without Fainting – Fellowship “They shall walk and not faint.”
  • 2. Running Without Weariness – Spiritual Battle “They shall run and not be weary.”
  • 3. Soaring Like Eagles – Ascension “They shall mount up with wings like eagles.”

These three experiences require renewed strength.

Isaiah 40:31.

Walking Without Fainting – Fellowship (Isaiah 40:31)

Walking without fainting speaks of fellowship with God.

Enoch walked with God for 300 years. Only the first 65 years of his life were not counted in this divine walk. Such a long journey with God requires great patience. Walking with God in this world is not easy.

A person who walks with God cannot walk with the world, and therefore may even oppose worldly ways. Enoch walked with God, not with the world, and he faced many struggles. Yet, he was taken up, like an eagle soaring upward (Genesis 5:21-24; Hebrews 11:5).

Noah also walked with God. He was righteous and blameless. For 120 years, he preached righteousness and faced ridicule. Yet, he did not grow weary or faint. He remained steadfast and entered the ark prepared by God (1 Peter 3:19-20; 2 Peter 2:5). Those who receive renewed strength will not faint in walking with God, walking like God, or walking before God. “Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.” (Ephesians 5:1)

Running Without Weariness – Spiritual Battle (Isaiah 40:31)

The Christian life is like a race. All runners run, but only one receives the prize. Therefore, we must run in such a way that we may obtain it (1 Corinthians 9:24-26). Paul encourages believers to run with purpose, keeping their eyes on the goal. Hebrews 12:1-2 urges us to run with endurance, looking unto Jesus. Running without weariness represents our spiritual battle. Through the renewed strength mentioned in Isaiah 40:31, we are empowered to continue without giving up.

Soaring Like Eagles – Ascension Power (Isaiah 40:31)

“They shall mount up with wings like eagles.” Isaiah 40:31

This is the strength of ascension, the divine power that lifts a person beyond earthly limitations. God granted this strength to Enoch, who was taken up. Elijah received this power and was taken into heaven (2 Kings 2:1-11).

Ezekiel and Philip also experienced supernatural lifting by the Spirit (Ezekiel 3:12; 8:3; Acts 8:39).

Beloved, in these last days, the Bride, the Church that is being prepared, will receive this ascension power. The Lord will grant them strength, and they will rise like eagles. They will meet the Lord in the clouds, enter the New Jerusalem, and rejoice with Him forever.

Dear friends, those who wait upon the Lord will receive new strength. They will walk without fainting They will run without weariness. They will soar like eagles. This promise in Isaiah 40:31 is not just a verse, it is a divine assurance for every believer who patiently waits in God’s presence. Let us remain in His presence, wait with expectation, and receive the supernatural strength that comes only from Him.
