Build House On The Rock – Build Your Life On Jesus

In this Sunday School story about building a house on the rock and building a house on the sand, we will teach the children many important truths:

Who depended on God? Who did not depend on God?

What did Jesus call them – a wise man or a foolish man?

Through this lesson, we will teach many spiritual values to the children.

Aiming

  • Children must be strengthened to depend only on Jesus Christ.
  • They should be encouraged to begin every work with prayer.
  • Children should be inspired to grow in prayer and in the Word of God.
  • They should develop a desire to listen to God’s Word.

Teaching Method

Hi children, how are you all? Is everyone in your home doing well?

Recently, during the heavy rains and storms, how was your house? Some houses fall down, and some remain strong. Isn’t that true?

The house that stands firm during storms and heavy rains gives confidence to the people inside. But if a house is weak and may collapse because of wind and rain, the people inside feel very afraid. In such situations, they worry which wall might fall or whether the roof might fly away. They remain in fear, right?

In our Holy Bible, in the Gospel of Matthew 7:24-27, Jesus spoke exactly about such houses. Let us see what happened.

There were two men who wanted to build houses. They kept searching and searching for a suitable place. After searching for a long time, both of them found places that they liked.

One place was rocky and slightly elevated, like a hill area. One person liked that place. The other person liked the sandy area beside it.

The first person said, “I will build my house on this rocky place, on the rock.”

The second person said, “I like this sandy place. I will build my house here,” because he thought the sand was soft and comfortable.

Both of them started building their houses. They worked very hard, stayed busy, and were committed to finishing their work. Finally, each of them completed their house.

The first person built his house on the rock. The second person built his house on the sand. Both houses looked very beautiful, and both were very happy.

After some time, the rainy season came. It kept raining continuously. The rain became heavier and heavier. After many days, it turned into a storm. Strong winds blew, and floods also came.

Both men were inside their houses. After some time, children, can you tell me what happened?

Yes, you are correct.

The house built on the rock stood firm and was not shaken. But the house built on the sand fell down.

Now, children,

Tell me, among the two, who had good thinking and who did not? Very good! The person who built his house on the rock had good wisdom.

House on the rock

Why did the house on the rock not fall?

The foundation of the house on the rock was very strong. When the foundation is strong, nothing can shake it or move it.

Why did Jesus say these words in the Gospel of Matthew? There is a meaning behind this. He wanted us to understand how to build our lives.

Our life is like a house. Just as we build a house step by step, we must build our life step by step. The foundation of our life must be very strong.

Why? Because in our lives there will be many temptations. Just like storms and floods came to the houses, in the same way problems and temptations will come into our lives. Satan tries to pull us away from God. He may say, “Go here, go there, do this, let’s go to a movie, speak badly about them, look at their nice clothes, why are you dressed like this?” and many such things.

If our life is like a house built on the rock, we will remain strong and will not move away from God. That is because we have laid a strong foundation. When you depend on God, that becomes a strong foundation.

But those who build their life like a house on sand become weak. They easily listen to wrong words, become discouraged, confused, and spiritually dull.

Jesus Christ is compared to the Rock. If our life is built on Christ the Rock, no matter how many floods or storms come, we will not allow our spiritual life to fall. We will stand strong on Jesus, our Rock.

How can our life be strong like a house on the rock?

Say this: Jesus is the strong foundation of our life.

Those who depend on God and listen to His Word have a strong foundation. No matter how many trials, sufferings, or difficulties come, they will not fall. They will stand firm like a house on the rock.

We must build our life on God’s Word. In the Gospel of Matthew 7:24, Jesus said, “Everyone who hears these words of Mine…”

Those who hear God’s Word, read it, meditate on it, and practice it will have a strong life. Just like a house built on a hill or on a rock stands firm, in the same way a life built on God will stand firm.

Such people will never fall, no matter how many attractions or temptations come. They will remain strong like a House on the Rock.

Not only that, Jesus gave a special name to the person who built his house on the rock. What is that name? Yes, a wise man.

Those who hear His words and obey them are called wise. But those who hear His words and do not obey them are called foolish.

Now tell me, what name do we want from God? We want to be called wise, right? To receive that name, we must listen to God’s Word and depend on it.

See children, if we build our life on Jesus, the Rock, we can withstand the storms of life such as suffering, poverty, and difficulties. Therefore, from a young age, you must come to Sunday School and build your life on God. Then you will stand firm
